23rd July - Heart Break At The British Open, World Rankings
Sergio Garcia finishes 2nd at The British Open at Carnoustie after losing out to fellow Ryder Cup hero Padraig Harrington in a play off. Sergio looked like he was just 18 holes from major triumph going into the final round after 3 brilliant rounds left him 3 shots ahead of the field.
Sergio was understandably nervous and struggled, especially on the greens in the final round. Sergio needed a par on the difficult 18th hole to claim victory, however a pulled 2nd shot left Sergio with a difficult up and down from the sand. Sergio just missed his par put which put him into a 4 hole play off with Harrington. Sergio was obviously pretty down from the 18th hole and Harrington defeated Sergio by one shot on the 18th.
Sergio rises to number 8 in the latest world rankings.
